Wendy Landry’s students at Om Prana Yoga tell her that her new space is a “hidden oasis.”
Creating an environment where clients can leave their stresses at the door and relax is exactly what Landry, the studio’s owner, hoped to achieve when she moved into the 160-year-old building at 102 Main Street in Parkville recently.

“Our mission is to keep people moving, keep people healthy, happy and in a community where they feel supported,” she said.

The new studio takes advantage of the building’s natural light and sounds to create a peaceful experience for clients. “Both studios up here have French doors, so the light can carry through to the opening space where people come in and get their props and can sit and chat with one another . . . and we’ve got this really great Woodstock wind chime in the back. It’s a really big one, so it’s got really deep tones. So, in our morning classes, we hear the birds chirping and the bells.”
In addition to a full schedule of traditional yoga classes, Om Prana Yoga offers yoga therapy.
“Yoga therapy is a tool to create ease in the whole person,” said Landry, who was one of the first IAYT certified yoga therapists in the Kansas City area. “It is tailored to meet the individual.”
The studio’s growing yoga therapy clientele prompted the move, Landry said. “We were starting to serve populations that couldn’t get up the stairs at our old location. We work with traumatic brain injury, knee and hip replacements, cardiac patients, COPD. … In our new location, we’ve got an upstairs and downstairs, so we’re able to serve everybody.”
